I think Truman Capote's short story "A Christmas Memory" romanticizes mental illness*, but has some good one-liners re: fruitcake, etc. And good lessons about dealing w/ family, at least my dad's new family:
"they have power over us, & frequently make us cry, [but] we are not, on the whole, too much aware of them" (b/c of HEALTHY coping mechanisms - nothing related to booze, drugs, sex, over-eating, or compulsive exercise).
*this blog does NOT glorify mental illness, it's just poorly written.
